A Celebratory Concert Series for Music Therapy

Sounding Joy Music Therapy invites you to a two part Kani Ka ‘Oli concert series at the Mamiya Theatre. These events aim to show the effect of Hawaiian music as a tool for music therapy.
The September 9th concert will feature Ozzie Kotani, Herb Ohta Jr., Roy Sakuma & Super Keiki, and a world renowned composer/pianist from Japan, Tempei Nakamura. This concert will also honor KoAloha for their tremendous support of music therapy in Hawaii and celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Sounding Joy Music Therapy, Inc. A part of the proceeds from the evening will benefit Japan relief effort through music therapy.
Tickets are $115 for both concerts or $65 ($75 after August 9th) for each individual concert, and can be purchased at Student tickets are available at the door for $35 with ID. Don’t miss this unique event celebrating the gift of Hawaiian music!

The February 8, 2013 concert will highlight local artist Kimo Hussey and the Pacific Music Foundation as well as special guest artists from Japan, the Masaaki Band. This group is composed of artists who, despite their disabilities, are all gifted with the talent of playing music.

Malama Hokule’a Fundraiser

The Polynesian Voyaging Society invites you to participate in a major fundraiser to support the amazing refurbishment of Hōkūle‘a:

Come join us under the light of a full moon for an evening of chant, dance, music, film and photography – all inspired by the epic voyages of Hōkūle‘a. Bring your family and friends! Tickets are $25, and available on-line ( and at the PVS office ( or 842-1101).

Here’s what the evening looks like so far (guest artists and additional voyaging education booths currently being planned):

5 pm – 6 pm: Showing of “Papa Mau: The Wayfinder” – a film by our own Nā‘ālehu Anthony and Palikū Documentary Films about the Micronesian visionary whose generosity and commitment to non-instrument voyaging brought that art back to Polynesia and the world. The first 120 people through the ‘Ōhi‘a Cafeteria’s auditorium doors will be seated. Copies of the documentary will be for sale.

6:30 pm – 9 pm: Original Chant and Hula Pahu for Hōkūle‘a, and musical entertainers Weldon Kekauoha and Ernie Cruz, Jr.

Throughout the night: Images of Voyaging – Display and sale of 16 photographs of Hōkūle‘a by Nā‘ālehu Anthony, Monte Costa and Sam Low.

Food, non-alcoholic beverages and PVS merchandise also will be for sale. Bring mats, blankets or low chairs for lawn seating, but no alcohol or pets allowed.

Shearwater Soiree

Join the Hawai‘i Audubon Society for a night to remember at our
Shearwater Soiree.
This night of music, food and fun is scheduled for August 2nd at thirtyninehotel in the heart of downtown Honolulu from 5:30 to 9:00pm.
Throughout the night a silent auction full of great items will be held, an update of the Freeman Seabird Preserve will be given and the Adopt-A-Shearwater campaign will be launched.
Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door. All food, entertainment and fun is included in the ticket price. All proceeds will go to support the mission of the Hawaii Audubon Society, the oldest conservation organization in Hawaii.

Ho`olako: A Taste of He`eia

Fundraising event for He`eia Fishpond! A Taste of He`eia will be at Ka Lae o Ke`alohi (He`eia State Park) on Saturday, August 27, 2011. Join them in celebrating 10 years of Paepae o He`eia. There will be `ono food prepared by their featured guest chefs, great entertainment, and a spectacular silent auction.
